Friends Always & Pals Forever

Prairie Trail Federation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit with a simple motto — to be “Friends Always & Pals Forever” with our daughters and sons. We do this by spending quality time with our children while doing various fun, educational, memorable, and charitable activities. It is our goal to provide fathers, sons and daughters with opportunities to make positive, unforgettable, life-long memories. With our GUIDES and PRINCESSES programs for ages Pre-K through 5th grade, our TRAILBLAZERS program for 6th grade and on, and our WISE MEN program for continuing the journey through service to the community, come see how to make our motto, your motto!

Activities Build Bonds

Our Guides and Princesses may attend as many as 3 campouts with their dads in heated cabins at YMCA facilities (IL, WI, MI, and IN within a 3 hour drive) where they strengthen their bond while learning about nature and participating in numerous activities such as horse back riding, fishing, boating, swimming, rock climbing, zip lining, hiking, archery, tube sliding, ice skating, crafting, and so much more.
Our Federations will organize several events each year that our members may choose to attend either individually or with their tribes. Examples of some of our most popular events include spending a Night at the Museum, building and racing a Pinewood Derby car, attending our annual Daddy Daughter Dance, playing cards (dads only) on our Fellowship Night, Skiing and Tubing, marching in the Per Parade, experiencing Midwest Soaring’s Harvest Pow Wow, and enjoying a production at the Children’s Theater.
Our more than 1,800 members are organized into approximately 50 tribes that tend to be centered around schools or community areas. In addition to the Federation events, these tribes will also determine and schedule their own individual events such as Laser Tag, Nerf Gun Battle, Haunted Trails, Galloping Ghost Arcade, Pinewood derby workshops, craft nights, first aid and CPR training, and more.

Giving Back

Each year, the Prairie Trail Federation supports the La Grange Rotary Club and their Secret Santa program to provide a little Christmas cheer for children in our communities who could use a little help. The tribes in our Federation will support roughly one-third of the approximately 900 children (ages 0-17) that are served by this program from Bridgeview, Broadview, Brookfield, Burr Ridge, Countryside, Hickory Hills, Hinsdale, Hodgkins, Justice, Indian Head Park, LaGrange, LaGrange Highlands, LaGrange Park, Lyons, McCook, Summit, Westchester, Western Springs, & Willow Springs. Over the years, our members have collectively donated over a half-million dollars to this wonderful cause.
Our dads continue to give back to our community through our Wise Men program. For more than 70 years, a group of dedicated, hard-working volunteers has gathered to sell Christmas Trees next to what used to be the Rich Port YMCA to raise money for organizations that serve our community. This benevolent group of selfless gift bearers (originally the Y’s Men’s Club) is now poignantly known as the Wise Men and has given over $2,000,000 in donations, awards and grants for local charities, community organizations and students.
We proudly donate to the Greater LaGrange YMCA Special Olympics team. Based on the generosity of our members at collections taken by our boys and girls at campouts, our donations help these incredible athletes train, travel, compete, and have fun.
